During A Wildfire: Get Set, Be Aware

Once you have your emergency kit and plans ready, the next step is being aware of hazardous conditions and potential wildfires.
If you are in an area at-risk of wildfires, you should have an emergency kit and escape routes ready. You should also have your home and property prepared to help mitigate the potential fire danger.
The next step is to be ready if a wildfire does ignite near your home. Being aware of fire danger conditions (dry weather, drought conditions, high winds, or low humidity) can help you prepare ahead of any actual wildfires. Monitoring wildfire locations and downwind conditions is also important.
Being aware of the potential fire danger is important, as there are actions you can take to prevent any creation or spread of fires. This includes not lighting campfires/bonfires/etc., making sure any discarded cigarettes are fully extinguished, and bagging up any yard waste like leaves and grass clippings that could aid in the spread of fire.
If a fire does develop nearby, it is important to have your emergency kit and other supplies already packed and ready to go in case an evacuation is ordered for your area. Have your vehicle topped off with gas so you can make it to your evacuation destination.
Finally, you need a way to get alerts of wildfires in the area and any evacuation orders related to it. This could include a NOAA Weather Radio, local emergency office communications, TV news, and social media.
