Are you tired of being cooped up indoors all winter long? With more daylight hours and pleasant weather, spring is the perfect time to finally bring your workouts back outdoors. Brush up on these fitness tips to make sure you get the most out of your outdoor exercise routines:
- Exercise equipment maintenance. Quite the toll can be taken on exercise equipment after a few months of non-use during the bitter cold winter. Make sure bicycle tires are properly inflated, chains are in good condition and all other exercise equipment is inspected, cleaned and repaired. Towels, mats and other accessories should also be cleaned of any lingering bacteria.
- Prepare and plan your route. One of the great things about exercising outdoors is the abundance of different locations and paths you can explore. If you are going to venture far away or in remote locations, such as deep wooded areas or mountainous terrain, make sure you plan ahead of time and let someone else know your agenda. Not only will this provide you with a more efficient and prepared experience, but it will also make for a good plan for others in case of emergencies.
- Check the weather. For those that have a longer-lasting exercise routine that will span several hours to a few days, such as mountain biking or a weekend long hike, checking the weather ahead of time will allow for a safer adventure.
- Appropriate footwear and attire. A good majority of outdoor exercises are going to be done on your own two feet. To prevent injuries and to maintain comfort, a new pair of well-fitting shoes is crucial. After prolonged use and discomfort sets in, footwear should be replaced. Be sure to wear the proper clothing for the weather as well.
Remember to enjoy the fresh, crisp air of spring, while it lasts!
