Severe weather is here and it’s worth following these simple steps to protect your pets in case hazardous storms head your way!
Stay Informed
Keep up with the latest weather forecasts whether that’s through your local TV weather person or through an app on your phone. Having multiple ways to get weather alerts is a good failsafe in case one source fails to reach you.

Plan Ahead
Have an emergency plan ready before severe weather strikes. This can include a microchip in your pet or a collar with identification in case they get separated. Know which room in your home is the safest (most interior, lowest level of your home) or consider installing a storm shelter. Have a kit full of supplies that contains food, water, and medication for at least three days. Keep important documents such as veterinary records, identification tags, etc., in a waterproof container.

During the Storm
If a warning is issued for your area, take your pets with you and move to a storm shelter or to the lowest, most interior part of your home. Keep pets away from any windows or doors to avoid flying debris and to prevent them from escaping. If you need to evacuate, bring pets with you and keep them on a leash or inside a carrier.
After the Storm
Inspect your property to make sure your pets will not run into any hazardous power lines, broken glass, or other sharp debris. Have clean water and food for your pet and seek any veterinary care your pets may need after an injury or if they are showing any signs of distress.
Weather can become frightening in a flash, but planning ahead can keep you and your pets safe during any unpredictable storms. You can find the latest local forecasts and alerts at WeatherBug.com or through the WeatherBug app.
